Fields of History
A map of the world’s historical events
Fields of History is a map of recorded history. Click anywhere on the map, or let it find your location, and pins appear for historical events that happened nearby: battles, treaties, fires, floods, disasters, and more. Click a pin to read about the event, and get directions if you want to go see the spot for yourself.
Sources
The pins come from Wikidata, which records events with a place and a date, and Wikipedia, which tells their stories. The map itself comes from OpenStreetMap, with tiles by CARTO.
Coverage varies from place to place. Well-documented areas are full of pins, while others are quiet. If a place you care about is missing its history, adding it to Wikipedia will bring it to this map too.
